

You will then see the EndNote toolbar. To ensure that your Word document is linked to the Online version of EndNote, click on Preferences and then application and check that EndNote Online is selected. You may have to enter your EndNote Online log in details again. You will need to enter your EndNote Online email address and password. Click on the EndNote tab to link your document to your EndNote Online library. When you open Word, you will see the EndNote tab appears on the Word toolbar. Simply follow the onscreen instructions, and click finish when the installation is complete Once the download begins, you will see a series of dialogue boxes. Before you start downloading installers ensure that Microsoft Word is shut down. Then, simply choose the appropriate plugin for your system and click to start the download. You may wish to read the installation instructions and the information about system requirements. Once you have logged into your EndNote online account, click on the ‘downloads’ tab. This allows you to use the Cite While you Write function to automatically create in-text citations and build up your reference list.

You may need to take some extra steps to configure EndNote to search only PSU's library databases. Use the desktop application to a few databases and library catalogs, and then select citations from the search results. Once you fill in the citation information, it is saved to your EndNote Basic account.įinally, you can save citations to EndNote by using the search feature within the desktop application. You will generally need to fill in the citation information yourself, as the extension can be unreliable at automatically filling in citation information. If you use only EndNote Basic (and not the full version), the Firefox extension is the only way you can capture citations. It may be slightly different in each database, but the steps and interface will be similar.ĮndNote also has a Firefox browser extension that lets you capture citations from the web. Each database has a slightly different interface, and sometimes the option to export a citation to EndNote can be listed under a different term, such as "Save" or "Export." You can export research articles from the web, Microsoft Office, and PSU's research databases. There are several ways to import citations to EndNote.
